Power Electronic Semiconductor Devices
Power electronic semiconductor devices (Power ESDs) are crucial that enables efficient energy usage in nearly every electric and electronic system, from our phone charger to electric cars and power grids. They are at the heart of the modern energy ecosystem, making devices greener, smarter, and more efficient. Even though not visible, power devices directly affect our daily life the list includes, Mobile phone charges, home appliances, LED lighting, Electric Vehicles and solar panels. Power ESDs are components that control and convert electrical energy in electronic systems. Unlike regular logic chips (like CPUs or memory), these devices are designed to handle high voltages and currents, making them essential in power control and energy conversion. The devices are used to switch, amplify and control the electrical power, convert AC/DC to DC/AC, and regulate the power flow in circuits. Power ESDs enables efficient energy management in both small electronics and large industrial systems. Diodes used in rectifiers, Thyristors (SCRs), Power MOSFETs, IGBTs and SiC/GaN FETs are some examples of power ESDs. Power ESDs find themselves in the high-growth segment, especially with trends like green energy, smart grids, and transportation electrification and play a crucial role in electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy, data centres, industrial automation, and consumer electronics. The market suggests that with the recent electric vehicle boom, there is a high demand for IGBTs, SiC MOSFETs, which find their use in Green Energy and portable electronics.
